The Best Way To Visit Besakih Temple

  • The best way to get to Besakih Temple is by car or scooter.
  • You can rent a scooter from the main tourist areas of Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta or Ubud and drive to East Bali at your own pace.

 To enter Besakih Bali Temple, it costs Rp. 60,000 per adult.  The price includes a guide and is delivered using a motorbike from the ticket counter.  The entrance fee also includes a sarong that is used to cover your feet and is mandatory to enter the temple.

Tips for Visiting the Temple

  1. It's best to bring cash if you want to buy drinks, snacks or souvenirs during your visit to Besakih Temple.
  2. There are usually locals selling sarongs in the parking lot, but you don't have to buy them as they are included in the entrance fee.
  3. However, feel free to buy your own sarong, as this is a unique piece to own, and you will also be helping the locals make a small profit that comes in handy in these villages.
  4. There are many guides you can book online or outside the temple, but they can be expensive and most are not local guides.  However, giving tips to guides is also allowed if you like their explanations and services when guiding you.  starting from IDR 30,000 - 50,000 usually recommended.

Best time to visit Besakih Temple

  • Besakih Bali Temple is open all year round, so you can visit it anytime during your visit to the Island of the Gods.
  • Although the temple is open 24/7 for Pemedek (congregations), the opening times for other visitors are Monday to Sunday, from 8 am to 6 pm.
  • With an annual average temperature of 27 degrees, the days can get very warm, so my advice to you, if you want to enjoy your time exploring the temples, try to get there by 8am or around 5pm.  the temperature is good and also because these hours are usually not very busy.
  • Another thing to note is that in April there is a ceremony at Besakih Temple (odalan) which is an unforgettable experience.  Don't forget to bring your camera and take some unique photos!

Facilities Provided

Besakih Bali Temple is equipped with toilet facilities and a large parking area to accommodate visitors who come by car or scooter.


You will also find a number of warungs (small local restaurants) which are usually small family-owned businesses.


Warung is located at the entrance which is perfect if you want to buy some snacks before or after exploring the temple.


There are also a number of retail stores where you can buy some unique souvenirs for yourself or gifts for loved ones.  However, be aware that these can be overpriced, so be sure to test your bidding skills!
